Oils for Cleaning...what I have done and what I am planning to do.

Part 1 - Lemon

Picture
This is my #1 go to for cleaning because it works sooo well, and because it is fresh, uplifting and can cheer up my little one with one swift sniff.

Lemon as a wood cleaner
- 1/4 cup vinegar
-1/4 cup olive oil
20 drops ( 1 ml ) of Lemon ( I used 10 drops Arbour vitae and 10 drops Lemon for a more unique fresh woodsy smell )

Put in an old olive oil bottle or jar or and pop a little on a clean cloth for wood top treatment once every month or two.

Lemon as a deodorizer and multipurpose cleaner shaker.

- one cup of baking soda
-20 - 30 drops of Lemon

I put the soda and the oil in a mason jar and shake it to combine it. Using a metal skewer, I poked six holes in the top of the lid to  make it a shaker.

The best part is that you can customize these shakers to include whatever scent you want.

- On Guard
- Eucalyptus
- Tea Tree
- Lemongrass

I use these shakers on carpets, in the toilet, in the bathroom and kitchen with my vinegar eo mix on hard to clean grease surfaces.

Lemon and White Vinegar Spray

Part I used an oil spray bottle and put 1/4 vinegar with 1/4 water in it and 20 drops of lemon. I use it for a multipurpose surface cleaner.

Here is why I choose to clean with vinegar and make my own cleaners :)
and...Tea tree and On Guard are also two keepers when it comes to cleaning with vinegar. The house doesn't smell pickled when I include them.

Healthy Skin for Back to School

Back to school can be stressful for anyone but especially for the teenager, and even more so for the acne prone teenager. I know because this was me, and this is now my son.

I remember my loving parents trying numerous drugstore cleansing options hoping to find something  that would work. After the many topical creams and concoctions didn't work we went to the family doc and he said the only healthy option for me was try pills, that's what happened, I went on the pill. I think I was 14.

I think it made a bit of a difference, but there were terrible side effects and it really made me feel like a hot mess more than anything else. I know the acne breakouts were still there at least once a month, and I think acne started to develop in different areas of my body. UGH!

As I got older I started to go with the "girls" to the mall and make purchases for myself. One of the hot stores at the time was The Body Shop and I LOVED/still love that soap store. They had a product line there that used tea tree as a main ingredient for their acne prone line. So I bought it, I loved it, and it worked :)

So when I started to learn more about essential oils and the doTERRA product line I was excited to find out that there are MORE oils that have the same chemical properties as Tea Tree thus having similar cleansing and skin clearing impacts. SWEET!!!

Here are my musts and these can be combined to be made into personalized rollerballs for spot treatments or added to a organic fragrance free cleanser for a wash, combined with witchhazel as a toner, and added to an organic fragrance free moisturizer as well.  It is form of aware self care, I know what I am using to care for myself and my family and I find that very empowering.

What's even more amazing is that these oils have a multitude of uses.
Frank and Tea Tree are essential to my first aid kit, and I've just bought Helichrysum to support the reduction of the appearance of acne scars. ( It smells like honey and hay )

If you are interested to find out what the investment is in having these acne oils in your hands, please contact me for a personal consult.  Just one drop is all you need to support your skin. If you contact me before August 30th, you will get two bonus oils when you purchase the above oils. Manuka ( from New Zealand ) and Litsea ( from China ) both have unique health benefits as well.

Contact me to find out which oils will be best for you.

a The deal on DEET is that it is not good for you.
Although people are still using it and it is still being promoted as safe and effective, I'm out. I'm working to reduce the environmental toxins that myself and family are being exposed to, so for that reason, I'm a no go-er.

Although Health Canada does support DEET as a safe option for kids older than 12, they also support ESSENTIAL OILS to use as an effective option in the fight against bug bites.

https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/about-pesticides/insect-repellents.html

This week we went camping and had our own run in with some pretty mean mosquitos. At campsite number one, I used a combination of a Terra Shield spray and Geranium. Other members of the party used DEET. I don't think there was a clear winner there as the mosquitos outnumbered us 1,000 to one. BUT i didn't get any on my arms, face, neck, or ears, as this is where the product was applied. They were just buzzing around my head and making the campsite unbearable for about an hour.

I must have missed putting the produce on my feet because this is where the majority of the bit showed up.

At campsite number two, I was left untouched. I had applied the cream to my entire exposed skin areas and was relatively pleased with not having any bites or being bothered at all. And, to my surprise, other people were devoured.

I also enjoyed how using a cream as a carrier helped to moisturize my skin after a day in the sun and the river. I will be following the same routine in the future to stay bite free!

If you would like more information on how you can survive camping with the enemy and the cost of the products featured above, please feel free to contact me.  Your privacy is respected.
