Every spring break I load the kids up into the car and head to Idaho. It's a five hour drive to an indoor fun park where three wild boys can run off all of their "Spring Break" energy. I love it.
To make the trip go by really quickly I have two must haves:
1. Audible and a Harry Potter story
2. Eucalyptus and Peppermint diffusing in my car!
I really packed all the essential oils I could in a travel container this time. LOL, I thought I might look like a smuggler with what I was packing. But I am SO thankful as they came into use, BIG TIME as I also packed my diffuser for the hotel room.
Here's what I brought and why:
1) Peppermint - Multi purpose wake up, air cleaner, tummy tamer
2) Eucalyptus - breathing, hotel room diffusing
3) Lemon - every dang day, a drop in my water
4) Tea Tree - Teenage Pimple control
5) Lavender - Sleep diffusing
6) Wild Orange - Sweet Happiness for grumpy moments
7) Oregano - Immune Booster and tummy bug killer
8) On Guard - Immune Booster and Canker Killer
Here's what happened...
My middle son got food poisoning. It started almost immediately after dinner, but he's pretty sneaky and kept it to himself. However at about midnight he fell apart in every direction. Nothing stayed down or in. Poor thing. Because I was still in a sleep state it took me a little bit to remember the peppermint.
But I did, and he was so thankful. It wrapped him in comfort as I rubbed his back and belly with a carrier oil and the sweet smell of mint. It gave both of us an opportunity to sleep for a bit as we tried to get more water into his body every couple of hours. The peppermint did not cure the digestive situation but it provided him with soothing relief.
I also remembered that Oregano oil kills bacteria...so once he could stomach swallowing a capsule I put ONE drop in a veggie cap and gave it to him. I am hoping that helped his speedy return to normal.
As we drove up the 95 to our next destination, he sipped on water and I pulled over a couple more times for some more peppermint applications. And as he slept, the story of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince kept the rest of us all entertained.
The next day he was at an 8 out of 10 and was awake and happy and back to his quiet usual self.
And the next day, he was 10/10.
