![]() Having Celiac's disease means the days that follow trying food that is not labelled as Gluten Free might mean pain and discomfort and sometimes a little more. Yesterday, I tested my limits, I ate something that I knew was high risk, NOT obvious like a loaf of bread, but something that had big complicated words. The long and the short of it is I wound up eating processed soup because the packaging looked delicious. ( Still does ) So today I woke feeling like I had the flu or some variation of food poisoning. BLECHHHHH! The pain was not just in my gut, but in my joints in my body. I felt fatigued, cranky, and unlike myself. INFLAMMATION EVERYWHERE!!!! Here's where my life is changing...I turned to supporting my well being through two practices: Meditation and Essential Oils. I am working on a 21 day mindfulness practice that incorporates essential oils into the meditation to support the process of deepening self awareness, aka its easier to meditate when you have a sensory item to focus on. The oil in the practice today was rosemary, which just happens to be a magical oil that when combined with peppermint oil and used with fractionated coconut oil, and applied to my lower abdomen, made my gut feel so much better. Rosemary aids in digestion. Bless this herb. Honestly, before I meditated I had put the oils on my belly as curled up in a ball in bed. Within in 5 minutes I was able to record my meditation. Within five minutes it felt as if I was getting a hug from my mother, the kind of hug that takes the pain away. The kind of hug we all need to know how to give ourselves. And the kind of hug we need to give to others. The kind of hug that brings you joy. That is why I share this with you. These are not health claims, or FDA certified, this is just my personal experience. I love when things just happen to be.

Mindful practice is way to observe what you are thinking without judgement. It is a practice that creates insight into your own behavior and choices, it is a practice that supports self awareness.
Recently I was thinking about some behviours that I have that do not serve me, irrational fears that relate to past experiences but are not supporting me in my life today. They have become habits. I see these habits as neuropathways that have reason to exist but do not have reason to keep being used. Without judgement, as if they were something that I once loved, I have to let them go. I have to release the hold that they once had and thank them for bringing me to where I am today. This self study is a form of contemplative practice: without judgement I see what had a hold on me and I let it go. I know it is still there, I am aware of why it is there, but I no longer attach to it. Here is a practice that supports releasing and resetting intentions: I am loved, safe, and whole just as I am. I not longer need to believe that _______________ is true. I release _______________from my thoughts, words and actions. If you use oils to support your practice, here are some oils that can manifest the release and realign your intentions: Arborvitae, Basil, Frankincense, Camphor, Benzoin, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Chammomile, Citronella, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Grapefruit, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Melissa, Myrrh, Neroli, Niaoli, Pine, Sandalwood, Tea tree, Ylang Ylang. If you are pregnant always move forward with caution when using essential oils. Here is an article to support your journey. https://www.babycentre.co.uk/a1038554/aromatherapy-in-pregnancy I have started a new routine in my class that involves removing shoes. Mostly because the floors are out of control gross come wet weather season, but also because it is changing how students behave, there is a comfort to it, they seem more relaxed, at home. When kids were in Elementary school they removed their shoes and brought inside to wear and to play in. Come middle school, the enormous winter boots most of the kids wear don't let their little and big feet breathe, or move freely, and they are riddled with STINK. A funk like no other. It makes me gag. Puberty and foot funk...I was not going back on the shoe removal so today I had an idea... I asked the kids permission to put drops of Wild orange on the floor for their feet to play in and to clear the stink in the room. They were more than happy to experiment. Why Wild Orange? I had some on hand, it is very uplifting, it cleans the air, and it makes the room smell like creamsicles. Seriously, it is amazing! The kids were VERY happy, smiling, sweetly smelling, and sock footed. They were working happily on their projects and I was happy to have a room of happy sweet smelling students. It was that easy!
